Who Can Test?
Military members and their spouses are eligible for free DANTES and CLEP testing. Also, military members may be eligible for testing or reimbursement for ECE, ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, Praxis, and many certification and licensure examinations.
You can find more information about these testing opportunities at http://www.dantes.doded.mil/ or by contacting the WVARNG Education Officer at 304.561.6366.
Where Can They test?
There are two military testing sites in West Virginia (130th AW and JFHQ) where military members can test for free. Neither of these are test-stocking centers, meaning Soldiers must order tests and wait for them to arrive before tests can be administered. There are also numerous national testing centers around the state (usually in colleges and universities) where CLEP, DSST, and ECE tests are administered by electronic computer-based testing (eCBT). National Test Centers can be located using the National Test Center Search Web site http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_clep/searchCLEPTestCenter.jsp.
There is normally a test scheduling fee of $15-$25 at National Test Centers, but actual test cost is covered by DANTES. The advantages of eCBT testing include same-day scoring and better accessibility. 30 of the 44 CLEP tests are offered only through eCBT.
Mountain State University offers DSST and CLEP testing to military members and spouses for only a $15 sitting fee per test administration. They offer these tests for service members and spouses at 4 convenient testing locations in Beckley WV, Martinsburg WV, Beckley WV, and Center Township PA. MSU can be reached to schedule testing at 304.941.0636
GED testing is free within the state of West Virginia at test sites statewide: http://wvde.state.wv.us/ged/location_ged_centers.html
Are Study Guides Available?
Study guides are available for every test that is administered through the Army education office. Many of these are now available online at www.petersons.com/army . You may also view DANTES (DSST), and CLEP study guides by clicking on the links below:
What Happens If I Fail?
There is no penalty for failure of a CLEP or DSST test other than you can no longer retake the same test for free. There are still many other CLEP and DSST tests you may take for free.
