MOUT Training

Camp Dawson has a variety of MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) sites available to support all size training events.  Our MOUT sites support simmunitions as well as paintball.  Information on our live fire shoot house is available under the Range section of this website.  Below are general descriptions of each of our MOUT sites.

Pringle MOUT site:
This MOUT site is perfect for larger training events.  It is located on Pringle Tract Training Area making it easy to tie into training events that involve adjacent Pringle Training Areas.  There are nearby bivouac sites as well as LZs.

  • Location:   Pringle TA 7 (PD 1150 6220)
  • Distance from post:  5 miles, 10 minutes travel time
  • # of Buildings:  6 two story block buildings
  • Explosives Supported: Simulators only
  • Communication: Radios will be issued by Range Control.  Cell phone can be back up.
  • Scheduling:  To schedule this range, click on the Schedule Event link.

Volkstone MOUT site:
This site is located just across the Cheat River from the cantonment area.  It has a very complex system of rooms that are all joined together inside a large complex that also features a second story.  It also has a smaller village of 8 buildings adjacent to it.  You can make the scenario as difficult you wish with this set up.

  • Location:   Volkstone TA 2 (PD 1445 6785)
  • Distance from post:  3 miles, 5 minute travel time
  • # of Buildings:  1 multi building / room compound with 8 adjacent buildings
  • Explosives Supported: Simulators only
  • Communication: Radios will be issued by Range Control.  Cell phone can be back up.
  • Scheduling:  To schedule this range, click on the Schedule Event link.

Quarry Shoothouse:
This site is a single building shoot house located adjacent to our demolitions range.  It is ideal for teaching breaching in conjunction with basic room clearing.  Contact Range Operations for specific breaching information.

  • Location:   Briery Mountain TA 3 (PD 1592 6021)
  • Distance from post:  6 miles, 20 minutes 
  • # of Buildings:  1
  • Explosives Supported: Up to ΒΌ lb TNT equivalent for breaching the doors as well as simulators.  Must coordinate use of breaching charges with Range Operations prior to your event.
  • Communication: Radios will be issued by Range Control.  Cell phone can be back up.
  • Scheduling:  To schedule this range, click on the Schedule Event link.
  • Assets on Site:  Two scenario houses.

Safety Restrictions
At a minimum a combat lifesaver with aid bag and litter must be on site at all times. Also, the unit must provide a vehicle capable of transporting a litter, to be on site at all times. If these requirements cannot be met the unit will not be granted permission from Camp Dawson Range Control to go into an occupied status.
